Practicing Ahimsa: Nonviolent Communication Principles
February 20, 2018 @ 6:00 pm - 7:15 pm
6-Week Series | Tuesdays 6:00 – 7:15pm | February 20 – March 27 | Series Cost: $110
Ahimsa is the principle of non-harming. We can harm one another and ourselves unconsciously, without meaning to. Come and learn how to bring more consciousness and alignment between our intentions, our actions and their effects.
Nonviolent Communication (NVC) is based on the idea that all human beings have the capacity for compassion and only resort to harmful behaviors when they do not recognize more effective strategies for meeting their needs. It is a brilliantly effective set of skills that clear up confusion in how to relate both at the personal and at the social levels.
Each week, we will practice skills that teach us how to recognize the types of thoughts, feelings and needs happening in the present moment and free our attention to be more in “presence”, connected to our bodies and our experience in the moment. We’ll build our capacity to listen to each other non-reactively and grow our ability to choose responses that are aligned with what we value. Practices include:
• Recognizing when we’re taken out of the present
• Using our experience in the body to return to the present
• Connecting with what we most value
• Listening and speaking in a way that nurtures connection
• Formulating requests that are doable
Anyone who experiences confusion in relationships with children, parents, sisters, brothers, neighbors, coworkers could benefit from this workshop.
